Scottie Road Writers
The tradition of storytelling is as old as humankind.
From gathering around a fire in a cave illuminated only by torch light, or the epic poems of the ancients;
the minstrel singing his songs in tavern or court, right up to the present with TV and movies.
The compunction to tell tales is deep within our psyche.
None more so than within the various writing groups and storytelling circles to be found
in and around Liverpool and indeed the entire country.

In Black And White
In Black and White, features stories and poetry grown from Scottie Writers’ weekly meetings, reflecting the interests, influences and imaginations of the contributors. Some such as Eleanor Capper's Service, and Charles Rogan's Wish You Were Here are Liverpool centric. Several writers combine both poetry and prose. Catherine Rowe pens a moving tribute to Liverpool, her adopted home, before moving-on to the group’s favourite detective Mike Petrie. Tom Allport offers a selection of his poems, of which Scouseland is an accurate and sweet tribute to the city. John Culkin's Tides of Life is a sad look at life after death, while Alan Porter-Barnes' Cinder Toffee, and Tony Whittick's SS Enchantment invite readers on nautical, swashbuckling adventures. Pat Allport, and Peter Heath both offer unique perspectives on one of the group's weekly prompts in their Taking a Journey. Liz Biggins reminds us of youthful ambition in her rock 'n roll Bobby on the Beat. Ros Emery captures the fickle nature of popularity in her Fan Dancer, while Richie Brown highlights the plight of veterans in Arlington. In Black and White will be your companion for some time to come, as you delve in and out of its pages, visiting and re-visiting its many hidden treasures.
